Topic – Implementing More Interactive Features onto Music Streaming Platforms

Partnered with Mariam Boyadjian

Selected to Present in National Student Research Poster Competition

The main purpose behind our research is to see how people currently engaged with their music streaming platforms and what features if any, would boost user engagement and satisfaction.

We noticed the heavy competition with music streaming services, and there weren’t many indicators to who wins besides which brand people choose first. Another thing we noticed, was that people dont interact with these applications unless it’s strictly to pick a song or playlist.  From these insights, we believed that if a music streaming platform was to implement interactive features that drive more in-app engagement from the listener, this would improve the value, appeal, and positioning of the brand.

See our poster summary below!

Hypothesis:

Interactive features such as “karaoke with friends” and “trivia” will bring a more immersed consumer experience.

Research Questions:

How would consumers react to newly implemented features?

What current features are currently most important to consumers?

What features would improve user experience on these services?

Implications & Recommendations:

1.      Based on our research, females are more likely to engage with, recommend, and pay for interactive features. We suggest targeting women with new features to boost engagement and overall awareness.

2.      People prefer features and qualities that improve their personal listening experience before having social integration features. Focusing on features for an individual’s listening experience is more likely to gain traction.

3.       Overall, consumers want more to come with their current music listening experience. Listeners enjoy their current platforms, but building on and improving the current features will further current consumers satisfaction.
